Anglo Dutch style chest of drawers (English, 1653 to 1670)

Anglo Dutch style chest of drawers (English, 1653 to 1670)

Anglo Dutch style chest of drawers (English, 1653 to 1670). An English Oak and Fruitwood, “Anglo Dutch style”, enclosed Chest of Drawers, in two sections, circa 1653 – 1670. This is a very high status piece of furniture, of the highest quality with a range of inlays including, Ivory, Bone, Mother of Pearl, Bog Oak and Fruit wood. The colour and surface quality is excellent and unspoilt, and on the top “Document” drawer there is a charming hunting scene set in the inlay, with a Hare on one side, and a dog on the other. It probably originates from one of the East Anglian Workshops where the top examples of this type of furniture came from during this period. A related item is in the V and A collection, (See H. Clifford Smith, Victoria and Albert Museum, Catalogue of English Furniture and Woodwork, Vol 2 Late Tudor and Early Stuart, Published 1930), as well as another which is illustrated in Percy Mcqoid’s Book The Age of Oak. Restorations: in the upper section both sets of runners have been replaced. There has been some inlay replaced, including some sections of the Bog Oak. The locating blades to rest the top onto are replaced. The bun feet are also probably later.
Dimensions: 121.00cm wide, 131.00cm high, 65.00cm deep (47.64 inches wide, 51.57 inches high, 25.59 inches deep)
